About Me
Dr. William Holmes is a highly skilled dermatologist and Mohs Micrographic Surgeon dedicated to providing the highest quality care for patients with skin cancer. Growing up in Idaho and Northern Utah, Dr. Holmes joined the US Army Reserve after high school, where he trained as a Pharmacy Specialist and Field Medic.
Though he aspired to become a physician, Dr. Holmes prioritized supporting his young family, including a daughter with special needs. He launched a successful business in Tucson, Arizona, which provided stability but delayed his educational plans. Eventually, Dr. Holmes was able to step away from the business and fully commit to his studies. He completed his undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology with honors in Anthropology at the University of Arizona, graduating summa cum laude.
Dr. Holmes attended medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin, initially planning a career in pediatrics with a focus on children with special needs. However, during his training, he discovered a passion for surgery, especially skin surgery involving grafts and flaps. This led him to pursue dermatology, where he became captivated by the intricacies of skin health and skin cancer treatment.
He completed his dermatology residency at the University of Connecticut, where he served as Chief Resident and later became the department’s first Procedural Dermatology Fellow. Dr. Holmes specializes in comprehensive skin cancer treatment, including Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Reconstruction, as well as nail surgery.
Beyond his clinical expertise, Dr. Holmes is committed to education and mentorship, serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor and medical student mentor. He is also a past President of the Champaign County Medical Society and an Eagle Scout, with a lifelong dedication to volunteerism and community service.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Holmes enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, as well as hobbies like autocross, off-roading, mountain biking, and reading.
